Stephanie March (Law & Order SVU) has joined the World of Children organization as a celebrity ambassador. Here is the official press release:

January 27, 2010 06:00 AM Eastern Time

Actress Stephanie March Joins World of Children as Celebrity Ambassador
“Law & Order SVU” Star Joins Nonprofit Board to Advance Its Efforts to Build Global Network of Changemakers for Children

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--World of Children (www.worldofchildren.org), the only global recognition and funding nonprofit that recognizes individuals who are changing the lives of children around the world, today announced that popular television, film and Broadway actress Stephanie March has joined the organization as its Celebrity Ambassador.

“I am thrilled to support World of Children and its superlative efforts to fund changemakers around the world. It's a great privilege to be associated with an organization that recognizes and funds those individuals really working in the trenches, and I look forward to being part of advancing positive change for children everywhere,” said March.

Known for her sharply intelligent and sympathetic portrayals of a variety of characters in television, film and theater, March’s television credits include “Law & Order: SVU”, “Conviction”, “30 Rock”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and “Rescue Me.” Her film credits include “The Invention of Lying”, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, “Head of State“, “Flannel Pajamas”, “East Broadway” and “The Treatment.” March recently appeared on Broadway in the multiple Tony nominated revival of Eric Bogosian’s “Talk Radio” and in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway revival of Howard Korder’s “Boys’ Life”.

March is an activist for causes benefiting women and education. In addition to World of Children, she serves on the advisory board of OneKid OneWorld, an organization that rebuilds schools for children in Kenya and Central America, and has been on the board of directors of Safe Horizon for six years—an organization that promotes justice and provides support for victims of violent crime. March has also tutored children at the Harlem Village Academies in New York and is deeply committed to bringing quality education to children in local and global communities.

“Stephanie March brings incredible dedication and integrity to both her professional and charitable work and we look forward to working with her to elevate the changemakers World of Children supports,” said Harry Leibowitz, World of Children’s founder and chairman.

For more than a decade, World of Children has identified and vetted some of the most promising changemakers for children worldwide and provided funding for their efforts to improve children’s lives. The organization’s exhaustive research and vetting of individuals spearheading health and humanitarian initiatives across the global spectrum has been hailed by leading philanthropic organizations.

World of Children has been featured in Kenneth Cole’s AWEARNESS: Inspiring Stories About How to Make a Difference (http://www.kennethcole.com/awearness/) and previous World of Children honorees have been featured by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/16/opinion/16kristof.html), Fast Company Magazine, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Bonnie Hunt Show, USA Today, People Magazine and a wide range of national and international media. The World of Children Awards have often served as a pivotal launching point for its recipients.

World of Children is led by co-founders Harry Leibowitz and Kay Isaacson-Leibowitz, retired senior executives from Procter & Gamble and Victoria’s Secret, whose dream is to bestow a Nobel Prize®-like award to honor social changemakers who improve children’s lives. Since 1998, World of Children has awarded more than $2 million in cash grants to 84 changemakers working in more than 50 countries.

Vincent D’Onofrio to Star in Indie “Chlorine”

Several sources are reporting that Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order Criminal Intent) will star, along with Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”), in the indie “dramedy” titled “Chlorine” which is set to begin filming this month.

The Hollywood Reporter says “Chlorine” "…revolves around a family struggling to maintain their well-to-do lifestyle in their overly materialistic New England community. Sedgwick plays the matriarch, who is more interested in appearances than for caring or showing affection toward her husband (D'Onofrio), and pushes him into a bad real estate deal.”

D'Onofrio and Sedgwick could make for an interesting on-screen couple! Stay tuned for more details.

Mariska Hargitay on More Magazine Cover For February

The always beautiful Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order SVU) will be featured on the cover of More Magazine for the February 2010 issue, scheduled to be on newsstands on January 26. She’s billed as the “sexist cop alive,” and fans will certainly agree. Here is an except from the feature, courtesy of More Magazine, and don't forget to pick up your copy!

Mariska Hargitay on the February Cover of More Magazine
“The only reason I have the career I have is that I didn’t quit,” she says.

New York, NY- Mariska Hargitay is riding high as one of prime time’s best-loved (and highest-paid) actresses. The Law & Order: SVU star opened up to More for its February issue and discussed her surprising financial worries, thoughts on The Jay Leno Show bumping SVU, and living in the shadow of her iconic mother, Jayne Mansfield. Excerpts from the story, on newsstands January 26th, follow:

Why even she stresses about money: “I constantly worry about money. I make a lot now, but I don’t feel that way, because I was poor and had no money for a lot longer than I’ve had it. As an actor, if this show ends next year, then what? As an aging woman, then what? I’m saving money to live on, for the future. There are not that many roles for women, and I’ve been blessed with one of the great ones.”

About SVU’s move into the 9PM slot because of The Jay Leno Show : “It ruined our numbers. The first four episodes, we were considerably down because nobody knew when the show was on. Finally, we’re starting to find our audience again.” Given Leno’s disappointed ratings, she wishes the network brass would reconsider. “I hope we go back to where we belong. It was doing so well. Why mess with it?”

About the constant pressure for actresses to be beautiful: “I think I’m a very attractive person, but I don’t put myself in the realm of the beauty. That’s not where I get my esteem. I’m a size 8, and I feel proud of that, because it’s healthy. I’ve never felt compelled to be a skinny actress.”

About handling rejection as an exotic brunette beauty: “A guy at ABC told me to change my name and get a nose job. I said, ‘You get a nose job.”

About being compared with her mother, Jayne Mansfield: “I can never compete, so I don’t try. It’s mega über, it’s legendary, it’s iconic. Being a sex symbol is not my thing; it’s not where I shine.”

About finding her “home”: “Children, when they lose their mother, have a different antenna: ‘When will I be safe? When will I be home? I lost my home too early. I’m getting it back through Peter and August, and, strangely, through the foundation. It’s about following the signs, listening to your inner voice. I’m living my life, and I know that this is what I’m supposed to be doing.”

About getting hurt on the set of SVU: In October, Hargitay landed awkwardly and didn’t’ realize until months later that she had suffered a collapsed lung. “I thought it was a pulled rib. I’m pretty tough. When I couldn’t breathe anymore, I got an X-ray, and they couldn’t believe I was walking…I was doing stunts when I was pregnant. I’d fall, jump on guys. Now there are scenes when I have to run, and I’ll only take a few steps. Everyone is super-careful of me.”

About Joyful Heart, her foundation which helps survivors of sexual assault: “Doing something about it takes away some of my sadness. We can get closer to cures by shining a light on [the abuse]. I liken it to what happened with AA 15 years ago, where there’s not a stigma to it. We’d love to see that happen to sexual assault.”

Eric Bogosian Opens In “Time Stands Still”

Eric Bogosian is certainly not standing still in life after Law & Order Criminal Intent. As I reported last October, Eric will be starring in “Time Stands Still,” a Manhattan Theatre production by Donald Margulies, which began previews on January 5 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre . This is Eric’s Broadway acting debut. The show will open on January 28, 2010 and runs through March 14, 2010. It also stars Laura Linney, Alicia Silverstone, and Brian d'Arcy James.

“Time Stands Still” is described as a “story of Sarah and James, a photographer and a journalist, who have been together for nine years and share a passion for documenting the realities of war. When injuries force them to return home to New York, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life.”

The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre is located at 261 West 47th Street, New York, NY. More information on this production can be found at this link: Manhattan Theatre Club “Time Stands Still”
