Sam Waterston (Law & Order), considered an “old master” in his own right, will return to Long Wharf Theatre to appear in the American premiere of Simon Gray's 2004 work "The Old Masters. " The play will co-star Brian Murray and will be directed by Michael Rudman. A Broadway run is also planned, to be produced by John Martello and Elliot Martin. The Long Wharf production will run from January 19, 2011 to February 13, 2011 (Broadway dates have not been announced).

"The Old Masters" takes place in Italy in 1937, and focuses on a meeting in a villa outside Florence, Italy in 1937 between art historian, renowned art critic, connoisseur, writer, and collector Bernard Berenson (Waterston) and multimillionaire and world's most pre-eminent art dealer, Joseph Duveen (Murray). Duveen prepares to visit Bereson late that night with a priceless Renaissance painting for Berenson to examine, but this may jeopardize their long standing and secret business arrangement.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale in early August; details on ticket information will be available at www.longwharf.org .
