Jeff Goldblum - very much alive - appeared on The Colbert Report yet again, this time to dispel the rumors he is dead. But, Steven Colbert convinces him that he really is dead. Here is a short clip from the show with Jeff talking about his “death” and commemorating his own life. It’s hilarious – and Jeff gets in a quick plug at the end for Law & Order Criminal Intent.

Jesse L. Martin In “The Philanthropist” Premieres This Week

Just a reminder, Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) will be in the new NBC series “The Philanthropist” premiering this Wednesday, June 24, at 10:00 PM. I’ve included a few photos of Jesse with the cast, and a video clip which covers the making of the series which includes some comments from Jesse. I’m glad to see Jesse land on another show, and it sounds like it could be quite an interesting role for him.

Jeff Goldblum On Colbert Report Defends Flies

Jeff Goldblum (Law & Order Criminal Intent) made a brief appearance on Steven Colbert’s show “Colbert Report” on June 18, 2009, in humorous support of Colbert’s “rage” over the Barack Obama fly-killing incident. Sam Waterston Attends NYWIFT Designing Women Awards

Sam Waterston (Law & Order) was in attendance, and was also a presenter, at the 10th annual NYWIFT (New York Women in Film and Television) Designing Women Awards, which was held at Clearview Chelsea Cinemas on June 17, 2009 in New York City. The New York Women in Film & Television is a nonprofit membership organization for professional women in film, television and media. The annual gala salutes costume designers, makeup artists and hair stylists. Someone there should have reminded Sam beforehand that it is almost summer and he should not be wearing fall colors…sorry, that’s the fashionista in me talking! Still, Sam looks as pleasant and very professional as always.

Sam Waterston Attends Stuttering Benefit

Law & Order's Sam Waterston - in need of a haircut I might add but still looking dashing – was present at the 3rd Annual American Institute For Stuttering Benefit Gala, which was held on June 8, 2009 at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York. Also in attendance was journalist Sir Harold Evans and actress Emily Blunt. Law & Order Alumni In Summer, Fall TV Series

We have several alumni of the Law & Order franchise who are starring in some new television series this summer, and also in the fall. Here's the list:


Annabelle Sciorra, who played Detective Carolyn Barek on Law & Order Criminal Intent, is in the cast of the Fox series, “Mental.” I’ve watched the first episode, and the show is weak at best. Still, it is great to see Annabelle in a new series, since they really didn’t do a very good job with her character in Law & Order Criminal Intent. Sadly, “Mental” is not very good either (you can read my review of “Mental” here. “Mental” airs Tuesday at 9:00 PM on Fox.

Jesse L. Martin, who was a L&O fan favorite as Detective Ed Green on the “mothership” Law & Order, will be co-starring in a new NBC series called The Philanthropist, where he will play Phillip Maidstone, the business partner and friend to billionaire vigilante philanthropist Teddy Rist (James Purefoy). The series will premier on Wednesday June 24 on NBC.

Benjamin Bratt, the former Detective Reynaldo Curtis from Law & Order, returns for the second season of his A&E show The Cleaner. He plays William "The Cleaner" Banks, former heroin junkie turned "extreme interventionist." The series returns on June 23 at 9:00 PM on A&E.

Next fall, Chris Noth, another alumni of the mothership and of L&O Criminal Intent where he played Detective Mike Logan, will be starring on the series The Good Wife which will be airing on CBS. Chris’s character must resign from political office and he then he ends up in jail for abuse of office charges. The series stars Julianna Margulies (most famous for her long running role in the NBC series ER), whose character, Alicia Florrick, goes back to practicing law. A preview of the show is below. I have to admit, I watched Julianna when she was playing a lawyer in last summer’s flop “Canterbury’s Law” so I am not sure how believable she will be in this other role as a lawyer. From the preview, it looks like more of the same.

With only Law & Order Criminal Intent airing this summer, this gives fans plenty of chances to check out the franchise alumni in these other shows.

Sam Waterston, Governors Join to Protect Oceans

On June 5, New York Governor David Paterson joined with four other governors of Mid-Atlantic states to announce the formation of a group that will work toward future conservation and alternative energy projects in the Atlantic Ocean. This newly created group, titled the "Governors Mid-Atlantic Council on Oceans" will work to preserve the natural habitats in and around the Atlantic Ocean, at the same time promoting offshore renewable energy.

Joining Paterson were the governors or designated representatives of the states of New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, plus a representative from the Obama administration. Also present at this session, iving support to the cause, was Sam Waterston (Law & Order), who sits on the board of directors of Oceana, a non-profit marine conservation and advocacy organization.

The Daily Record reported the following comments from Sam:

"The situation is evolving faster than our ability to deal with it," warned actor Sam Waterston, a supporter of the nonprofit Oceana environmental group, who said a "crash of the oceans" can be a first effect of climate change, as increasing absorption of carbon dioxide makes the seas more acidic.

Increasing acidity harms calcium-dependent animals like corals and tiny crustaceans that whales and salmon feed on, and those species could be lost by mid-century if acidification rates continue, he said.

"Anything done to promote offshore wind (energy) ... will be crucial in the biggest fight of all, the fight against ocean acidification," Waterston said.

Chris Meloni Donates Tie for Charity Auction

Attention Chris Meloni fans! Here is a chance for you to bid on a necktie that was donated by Chris for an online auction to benefit the nonprofit organization Career Gear.

Chris donated a 100% silk Hugo Boss tie with diagonal blue and gray stripe, and he included a signed call sheet from Law & Order SVU (a photo is below). The auction went live today, and you can access the auction by going to this link for Career Gear, and select the image which displays the tie drive. Bidders have until June 14 at 11:59 p.m. EST to place a bid. A full 100 percent of the proceeds are going to Career Gear to support their mission of assisting disadvantaged men find and retain employment.

It sounds like a very good cause – and it’s also a very nice thing for Chris to do. There are other celebrities who donated for the auction, so check it out, you may find a few other items of interest!

Sam Waterston Presents Lifetime Achiement Award to Hon. Robert Morgenthau

Thanks to one of my readers by the name of William in Australia, who gave me a heads up to a new video of Sam Waterston (below). Sam was making an introduction to the Honorable Robert M. Morgenthau, who is being given the Lewis Rudin Lifetime Achievement award by Coro New York , on May 20, 2009. Morganthau is not seeing re-election for his long held position of New York District Attorney. Long time Law & Order fans are aware that the L&O character Adam Schiff was based on Morgenthau.

Sam is quite engaging in this speech and I found his comments very entertaining. I think you will enjoy it as well!
